In this blog, I am highlighting the international initiative of the US state department as well as the EU Research Council to investigate the Amazon region for conservation of bioeconomics. The Amazon region includes countries around the Amazon River Basin which contains the largest biodiversity as well as the largest rainforest and ecosystem with 30% of the world's plants and wild animals.

This region is extremely important for conservation of the forest and to observe natural gas and minerals. The Amazon River has the most challenging environmental issues which includes natural components, communities, tribes, connection with mainland, innovation, food systems, and the adoption to public policies and external partners.

I have been visiting the Amazon region in different countries such as Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil and Bolivia. I have witnessed the differences of development and population of the Amazon communities, cultures, and preservations. It is my opinion that there is much to do and to contribute in order to conserve the wide variety of communities surrounding the Amazon River.

Each country within its Amazon region has uniqueness and is in a stage of different development. The connection between the international communities and specifically with the international network of scholars and participants in research is very different from region to region. In the last 4 years, the international scholar community did all in their power to connect with the communities in the Amazon region in order to promote innovation, environmental stability, deforestation, health promotions, and digitalization as promotion of the food chain.

The connection with the communities around the Amazon River is very diligent as the local communities are combined of locals and tribes. The deeper you go in the Amazon, the less developed are the communities and the connection with the external world is more difficult. There are in remote and rural area communities where there are no schools and no public health. Those are two major challenges influencing the behavior of the communities in preservation of the forest and the surrounding nature. Those remote communities are totally dependent on the forest resources for natural herbal medicines and they lack the components of education to connect and transfer their ancient knowledge. Additionally, the ecological environment without reaching out to those communities is a very critical component for their preservation. Lately, there has been unity between scholars to promote Amazonas projects to participate in government, host institutions, and foundations, to support directly and indirectly the outreach to the Amazon regions. This support includes bringing innovations, research of bioeconomics, and the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystems. The part of the international external institution and scholars in bringing in innovations systematic transparency and accountability of deforestation among the indigenous communities in those remote areas is parallel to the innovations as we witness brought to the modern world by individuals such as Elon Musk, with projects such as Starlink and Electric Cars.

As a scholar living in a modern society, the importance of public policies, governance, and research is paramount to conservation of the society. In the Amazon region, the indigenous communities have their own public policies and governance, which are unique to the Amazonas communities. During my travels to these communities, I have witnessed that the Amazonas communities have their own community authorities and gatherings in the Maloka where there are different levels of authorities. The development of the governing system in the communities is strictly for the communities based on the hierarchy and is not related to external stakeholders. The connection between the communities and the external institutions is dependent on resources and interest where the external resources support the ecosystem of the communities.

In summary, there is a lot to be done in the development of the relationship between external scholar communities, government, institutions, organizations, and information of alliance with the communities. Those alliances in the future will benefit both parties as the Amazon region is extremely important to the world.
