Exploring Filandia, a town in the department of Quindio Colombia is a real adventure with a taste of coffee, hiking and amazing nature. Filandia is known for its proximity to Jardin, Department of Antioquia, and to Salento, as well as to Armenia, which is the capital city of the Quindio department.

Visiting Filandia gives you the opportunity to explore the surrounding towns of Salento and the Cocora Valley, known for its hiking and tall palm trees. This region is located on the west side of the Cordillera Central of the Andes mountains in Colombia.

For the lovers of coffee, and fresh agriculture products, this region is well known for its traditional production and commerce. We spent a few days in Filandia, enjoyed the amazing nature and the hiking in the surroundings. Spending the weekend by strolling near the rivers and hiking to the fields where you can witness the cows, and other animals just enjoying the green grass.

In the evening, we sat in one of the many coffee bars surrounding the central plaza located across the church in Filandia. Sitting at the central plaza is an adventure by itself and a performance of life. Some habitants are dressed traditionally with typical Colombian ponchos and cowboy hats. Many stores around the plaza offer tourists and the locals Colombian diversity of coffee products, and natural medicine. There are many stores with Colombian artisanal products including the production of natural weaved baskets.

The location of Filandia places it as the central path to any tourists that would like to explore not only the coffee region of Antioquia but also the coffee region of Quindio. This region is known for its pleasant welcome of tourists and the habitation in typical colonial colorful houses.

The locals population mainly are local Colombians, with less of indigenous community. The local Colombians in this area are specialized in agriculture and production of carne. Life in Filandia is peaceful. The locals enjoy the high quality of sustainability consuming of productions and energy.  They are farmers connecting sustainability development in the country of Colombia and outside.

I enjoyed my visit in this region and of course bought coffee products. Due to the safety of the region, and the unique culture of the local Colombians, I recommend traveling and enjoying this part of Colombia.
