I enjoyed drinking the fresh coconut water that was delivered to me by two special local vendors, who are local kids. The local kids were picking it from the trees and selling it on the road. The taste of the coconut water was different from the one I was used to in the States. The freshness of the fruit was contributing to its flavors.

I enjoyed it and it's highly recommended to try the local food of the Caribbean Coast. In cities such as Cartagena you can find high end restaurants with prices like New York. In the other towns that are smaller such as Palomino, the local restaurants are very simple and the food is made on the spot with an open kitchen. My favorite was the menu del dia, which is the menu for that day with a special price that includes a 3-course meal- including soup, salad, rice, protein, and juice. Usually, I would take an additional coconut rice, which is a delicious rice cooked in coconut. A special dish which is one of my favorites is the fried yucca. Yucca is a very popular vegetable used in the Colombian kitchen and on the coast it is added to almost every meal. There are also natural drinks mixed with Yucca.

The street food that you can find on the roads of the cities such as Santa Marta and some locals in Buritaca has a very good and high quality of local food. The food is always fresh and you can see the way it's cooked because it's done in an open kitchen, all from fruits and vegetables, meat and fish that are brought in that day. To see the stand of the fruits and vegetables is a celebration for the eyes. The colorful and the diversity is a noticeable symbol for its uniqueness. Eating fruit salad which is bought from a street vendor on the coast is a good scene. I enjoyed buying from this very nice gentleman on the Caribbean Coast who used to carry a big pot of fruit salad and sell it to pedestrians. He would put a condensed milk syrup on top of the fruit salad which would add sweetness to the plate. When I write these words now, I can still feel the delicious taste of that fruit salad on the Caribbean Coast in Colombia.

Besides the fruit stands down the roads in the cities you can also find locals who are selling their food that they cooked at home and sell it to all pedestrians. Discover the unique taste of rice cooked with milk as a flavor presented in the Caribbean Coast of Colombia. I recommend being open to taste the different fruits that are not familiar in America or in other places but are typical to Colombia, such as the Colombian “maracuya”.

I am finishing this blog wishing you all my readers wellness and a joyful life.
