An indigenous family transporting themselves along the Amazon River.

Traveling to the indigenous communities living on the banks of the Amazon River was and still is a challenging way to support the needs of the indigenous communities there.

A review of history, including our beginnings as a species, shows that development of the indigenous communities on the banks of the Amazon river  has been a constant response to multiple social, environmental, and economic problems and challenges. In addition to these factors that historically drive the development of the indigenous communities in remote areas  of origin, depend on the attraction of  such as the existence of a labor market that requires a workforce with varying degrees of qualification, the possibility of accessing better public services such as health, education or public safety, and the existence of a support network of family or friends in the communities.

The Amazonas region of Colombia is a remote and densely forested area, home to numerous indigenous communities that face significant healthcare challenges. These communities have limited access to medical facilities, and the nearest healthcare services are often hours or even days away. This lack of access has led to high rates of preventable diseases and inadequate medical care for chronic conditions. Most indigenous communities have no access to modern healthcare to treat skin diseases, respiratory infections, parasites or tropical diseases such as malaria - cases of which have exploded in the past few months.

Our project aims to complete the construction and outfitting of a healthcare facility in the Amazonas region. This facility will provide essential medical services, improve health outcomes, and offer a sustainable solution to the healthcare challenges faced by the indigenous population. We will start with setting up temporary clinics, which patients sometimes walk over many hours to reach. For some, this will be  their very first medical consultation.
