Pearls of Life: Coffee Farms, and Waterfalls, in the Antioquia Department Jardin, Colombia.
Jump to the fresh waterfalls of Jardin and enjoy the brew of coffee from the coffee farms of Jardin.
Jardin is a town that is part of the Antioquia Department in Colombia. Jardin is located 3 hours drive from Medellin and her habitation includes a small community of indigenous from the Medellin area and mostly Colombians natives.
The town life is very alive and I said that this city does not sleep. Everyday in Jardin is a celebration and I was lucky to be there during Christmas time. On Christmas the center of the town was highlighted and decorated. The chiesa, church, was full of decorations, flowers that were made specifically for Christmas time. For 10 days of Christmas, the local habitants celebrate together in the chiesa and around the chiesa where is the main garden of the town. Every night there are street vendors and the town people enjoy the fresh food that includes meat that they prepare on spot, burgers, fruits, and sweets. It is all typical food of the local production.
Jardin is very popular for its coffee farms and special coffee brew. I enjoyed hiking to the coffee farms and to the Cristo Rey statue every morning which was about a 4 km hike. At the top of the hike, there is a coffee farm and it's the most delicious coffee I have had for a long time. They brew the coffee on spot, they grind the coffee beans on spot, and you get it fresh to your cup. Additionally, they produce all kinds of other drinks based on coffee and fresh coffee brew. On the top of the hill, the coffee farms you can view the town and the surrounding.
On the way, you can see incredible nature, lots of trees and cows, goats, horses, pigs, roaming free in the farms and eating the fresh grass. Additionally, they are specialized in panella that is produced by the local factory in the town. Eating Trucca is a custom in this town. As there are big pools of fresh Trucca fish growing.
The town is surrounded with mountains and waterfalls. There are 7 different waterfalls in the area. It is recommended to explore the waterfalls in the area but not all of them. I like the waterfalls of the Amore. As you can see in the picture of my blog, the stream of water and the flow of the freshwater is reviving your spirit and very good for your wellbeing.
At night it is custom, especially in celebration days and in holidays, as I’ve been there during the Christmas time, to watch the horses marching in the streets. The horses are being guided by a special Colombian family, very famous, for breeding those beautiful horses and for training them to march and clap in the center of the Jardin town. The horses that I saw were the most beautiful and you can witness that they are being treated as royalty. The people in the town enjoy watching the horses guided and they toast to the riders with drinks that they serve them while they are circling the town center with the horses.
This town is beautiful and typically traditional Colombian town where I’ve witnessed people living very good with richness of nature. As a lifestyle trend, I witness good and healthy relationship between the habitation and the nature where the cycle of sunrise and sunset are the cycles of life.
