Pearls of Life: Capital of the Antioquia Department, Medellin, Colombia.
I love Medellin. Medellin, a fascinating city, is the capital of Colombia’s mountains Antioquia Department. Medellin is famous for its fabulous weather, as it is always spring. I spent many months in Medellin, at different times of the year and over the years. Exploring Medellin is going back to the history of Colombia, the history of the cartel in Colombia, and the huge change that this city has gone through.
Discovering the surrounding near Medellin and the different comunas, as Medellin has 16 comunas, is an assignment by itself. My personal opinion, Medellin is the number one city of Colombia and has become very famous for its colorful houses, food streets, and infrastructure that transformed rough and crime neighborhoods into thriving tourist trending communities.
Join me in this blog to discover the El Poblado neighborhood, which is considered the upscale neighborhood of Medellin, and very safe for tourism.
The view of the city from the top of the Masaya hostel in El Poblado is magnificent, at any time of the day and the night. The rooftop has places to lay down and relax, play billards, a hot jacuzzi and a space to be served with food and drinks. Occasionally, they have Dj’s, pool parties and competition for karaoke. The location with the views of the city gives you a delightful experience. El Poblado neighborhood welcomes tourists any time of the day.
The nightlife in Medellin, in El Poblado, is busy with streets full of tourism, locals, indigenous and opening bars and restaurants. Medellin has welcomed a big community of indigenous that you can see immersed with the street vendors and in the surrounding of the city center of El Poblado. From Medellin, you can book tours to the surrounding areas and one day trips to other cities and communities in the Antioquia Department, such as Santa Fe and Guatape.
Medellin became famous for being the home in the past of Pablo Escobar who was a powerful and highly popular among the Colombians and the leader of the organization the Medellin cartel. Today, in my opinion, Medellin can be an example of the transformation of the capital of the Antiquioa region into flourishing tourism infrastructure, innovation, technology and universities out of the grip of violence, drugs, and war.
I learned from the transformation of Medellin that it is possible to transform anything in life if you set your mind in a different direction. It is possible to educate the locals as well as the external world that Medellin deserves a good reputation and to be viewed as a different character than the past.
