Cascadas, Jungles & Wild Animals of Amazonas Ecuador.

Lion we spotted during our trip in the zoologico of Amazon Ecuador.

The Ecuadorian Amazonas offer amazing nature and exploration of the wild animals that are living in that area. While traveling in the Ecuadorian Amazonas, we explored the different villages and communities inside the Amazonas, as well as visiting the zoological park. The communities in the Amazonas live together with nature and use their special knowledge to accommodate the community as well as the wild animals.

We decided to visit the local market early in the morning and then to travel into the jungle. It was our desire to hike the track into the jungle towards the waterfalls, also known as cascadas. We planned to hike in the jungle and then to visit the unique Amazonas zoological park, one of many.

Walking the cascadas trail was very difficult. The tropical weather of the Amazonas, many times, leaves the path very muddy and slippery, which was in our case. The cascadas, located inside the jungle, demanded us to walk inside the jungle following the path that was full of trees and leaves, covering the way.

Hiking into the jungle was very dangerous. I do not recommend the trek for tourists without a local guide, as we did. The jungle is very wild. There are many wild animals and the trees are not cut to show the path towards the cascadas. We decided to turn around after walking 1 km into the jungle and head to the zoologico park.

We took a ride with local people who offered their car trunk for us as our seats. We paid $1 each for the ride. We sat in the trunk full of sacks of cacao and bananas. That by itself was an unique adventure and unforgettable ride.

We spoke with the locals who reassured us that we can take this type of ride. The locals explained to us this is their way to save gasoline expenses, by sharing rides into town. We arrived at the main station in town and from there we took a bus to the zoologico park.

The Ecuadorian Amazonas are very developed with their public local transportation system. The public transportation system connects the communities with the main cities. We were the only tourists riding these types of local buses, the rest were locals. I was amazed and surprised to learn how well connected the communities in the Ecuadorian Amazonas are by land.

Upon arrival at the zoologico park, we paid $5 each for entrance. The zoologico park is amazing. The wild animals were well treated, the park was very clean and highly maintained. We walked through the zoologico park and the whole round took us 3 hours. We saw wild animals that are typically inhabited in the Amazonas area.  Specifically, wild cats, tiger, lion, many kinds of birds, monkeys, turtles, fish, all kinds of mammals, tapir, anacondas, caimans, allegators and the adorable capybaras.

We enjoyed walking the park and exploring the uniqueness of these animals. These wild animals of the Amazonas are unique creatures that you cannot visit in other zoologico parks in the Western world. Upon concluding the visit in the zoologico park, we took the local bus back to town, while riding through the local communities.

The day was full of adventures. All experiences are special to this area of the Ecuadorian Amazonas. I thank God for giving us the blessing of watching the jungle, wild animals and meeting the amazing local Ecuadorian Amazonas people.
